Cook Avenue Additions | Canley Vale, NSW

Modern Facade Beautification and Flood-Resilient Spatial Transformation

Situated on Cook Avenue in Canley Vale, this residential alteration and addition project converts an outdated two-storey home into a modern, light-filled family residence. The existing structure suffered from an impractical, inverted layout—most notably an under-utilised ground floor dedicated primarily to basic storage. Our design strategy retained the structural integrity of the home while completely reconceptualising the interior floor plan and modernising the exterior envelope.

Addressing overland flood controls governed by Fairfield City Council required careful technical planning. By enclosing and repurposing the underutilised ground floor with flood-compliant building materials and raised habitable thresholds, we reclaimed significant internal living area without expanding the footprint unnecessarily. Lightweight upper-level cladding, refreshed architectural lines, and expansive new openings elevate the street presence, transforming a dated facade into a robust, contemporary urban home.

Key Architectural Highlights

  • Adaptive Spatial Reconceptualisation: Reclaims under-utilised lower-level storage areas to create fully integrated, habitable ground-floor living quarters.

  • Flood-Compliant Architectural Engineering: Encloses ground-floor spaces using water-resilient construction methods and materials aligned with Fairfield City Council flood controls.

  • Contemporary Facade Beautification: Replaces an outdated exterior profile with clean lightweight cladding systems, bold architectural frames, and high-performance glazing.

  • Sympathetic Rear Addition: Integrates a seamless rear extension that expands core family areas while maintaining a generous, private backyard connection.

  • Daylight Maximisation: Strategic window placement and light-shaft orientation flood the newly reconfigured interior layout with natural light.
